Malibu Shirts retail store
Queens' marketplace-WAIKOLOA, HAWAII
Lead Architect for Renovation of Existing Retail Space
Contractor: Dennis Schmitz Designs & Construction LLC
Client: Malibu Shirts, Inc.
A 700-square foot tenant improvement for Malibu Shirts within Queen’s Marketplace on the Big Island of Hawaii. The project transformed an existing retail shell into a distinctive, highly branded retail environment while working within the constraints of an existing commercial development.
The architectural design incorporates custom display fixtures, integrated merchandise shelving, specialty lighting, and layered architectural elements to create an engaging retail experience within a compact footprint. A bold material and color palette, together with the extensive display of vintage surfboards, reinforces the stores’ surf-inspired identity while giving the interior a strong architectural character.
The project included architectural design and construction documents for the renovation of the existing retail space, coordinaating the interior layout, fixtures, finishes, lighting, and building improvements within the existing Queen’s Marketplace framework.
“Jennifer, there is nothing anyone could say that would make you better than what you are! You did a great job! You are very good at what you do!" —Denny, Owner of Malibu Shirts, Inc.
